Clef playground: run Cloudflare’s Clef online

Run Clef-flash below with no account: pick an example, edit the text, press Run. Sign in to compare Jev, Clef and Clef-flash side by side on the same input and questions, answer by answer. Clef reads only about the first 2,000 tokens of what you send, so keep the decisive part near the top.

What you can do here

  • Try Clef-flash without an account. The panel at the top runs Cloudflare’s 9B decision model on an example you can edit. Each run answers two or three typed questions with a full probability distribution.
  • Compare models side by side. Signed in, send the same input and questions to Jev and Clef-flash — or any two of Jev, Clef and Clef-flash — and see answer by answer where they agree. This is the fastest way to decide which model to build on, and it is something neither TypeSafe nor Cloudflare offers on its own.
  • Design your own questions. The playground has the same model picker plus a question editor, saved threads and question sets you can reuse from the API and batch runs.

Reading the results

Each answer card shows the model’s whole distribution, not just the winner. A Choice answer lists every option with its probability, a Score answer places the input on your scale, and a Noul answer is the probability that the statement is true. In the side-by-side table, “Agree” means both models picked the same top option, the same side of 50% on a yes/no question, or the same nearest level on a scale.

When the two models disagree, look at the probabilities before deciding which is right: a 52/48 split and a 97/3 split are very different disagreements. The cases where one model is confident and the other is not are the ones worth labelling by hand.

Three things to know about Clef

  1. It reads only the start of long inputs. On 2026-10-04 Workers AI read about the first 2,048 tokens of the state — a little over 12,000 characters of English — and ignored the rest without an error. For long threads or documents, compare against Jev. The test.
  2. The benchmarks are Cloudflare’s own. Cloudflare reports Clef ahead of Jev on intent classification and tool retrieval and behind it on deciding whether to call a tool. Nobody has reproduced those numbers yet. Jev vs Clef has the details.
  3. It is open weight. Clef and Clef-flash are on Hugging Face under Apache 2.0, so you can move to self-hosting later without changing your questions. How to get Clef lists every way to run it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Clef playground free?
Yes, to start. Clef-flash runs on this page without an account, 3 times a day on the example question sets. A new account gets 200 free credits, no card: a Clef-flash evaluation costs 1 credit, a Clef evaluation 2, and a side-by-side run costs the sum of the two models.
What is the difference between Clef and Clef-flash?
Clef is Cloudflare’s 27B decision model and Clef-flash its 9B model. Both take the same questions and return the same answer shapes. Clef is the larger model; by Cloudflare’s own latency figures Clef-flash is about five times faster. On JevStation Clef-flash costs the same credits as Jev and Clef costs double.
Can I compare Clef with Jev on my own data?
Yes. Signed in, the side-by-side panel sends the same text and questions to any two of Jev, Clef and Clef-flash at once, shows where their top answers agree or differ, and lists each model’s latency, tokens and credits.
Does Clef generate text?
No. Clef is a decision model: it answers Choice, Score and Noul questions with probabilities. For writing, summarising or reasoning in prose you still need an LLM.
Can I call Clef from code?
Yes. With a JevStation API key, send "model": "clef-flash" or "model": "clef" to /api/v1/systemone. You can also call Workers AI directly with a Cloudflare account; How to get Clef covers both.
